A popular Tidbinbilla resident is celebrating a birthday!

Ripper the Musk Duck turned 27 years old this month and ACT Parks and Conservation reckons that makes him the oldest-living Musk Duck in the world.

It’s hard to imagine this story getting better, but stay with me.

A quick bit of googling revealed there was a Ripper the Musk Duck at the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve quite a few years back who was known for his chatty ways – yep, a talking duck.

Researchers recorded him repeatedly saying “you bloody fool”.

Initially, we thought Ripper the Talking Musk Duck and Ripper the Birthday Musk Duck were one and the same, but it turns out we are, in fact, the bloody fools.

Ripper the Talking Musk Duck is actually the birthday boy’s dad!

Sadly, Ripper Senior is no longer with us, making Ripper Junior the oldest.
