Education Minister Yvette Berry has announced a transformative initiative set to benefit students across the capital’s public schools. Beginning this school year, a pilot program will offer free, nutritious meals to students throughout the week at 5 participating schools.
This initiative, funded by the 2024-25 ACT budget, aims to alleviate the financial burden on families doing it tough amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
Participating schools are:
- Narrabundah Early Childhood School
- Richardson Primary School
- Gilmore Primary School
- Gold Creek School – Senior Campus (years 7 to 10)
- Melba Copland Secondary School – College Campus (years 10 to 12)
The program will feature a diverse selection of healthy food options, including convenient grab-and-go items such as yogurt, fresh fruits and vegetables, frittata, wraps, and salads.
By providing consistent access to healthy food, the program aims to contribute to a more positive and supportive school environment, helping students feel more engaged and content in their educational settings.
