Canberra has officially been named the world’s best city for quality of life in the 2026 Oxford Economics Global Cities Index. The capital also climbed seven places in the overall rankings, landing at number 45 out of 1,000 cities.

The index compares cities across economics, human capital, quality of life, environment and governance.
