When Mix 106.3’s Nige heard about a transport company in Austria giving away a year of free travel to anyone who got a tattoo of their railcard, he wanted to do a similar thing here in the nation’s capital.
After some thinking, Nige decided he was willing to put his body on the line and get a “Tram Stamp”, a tattoo of the Canberra Light Rail. But instead of winning himself a free year of travel, he wanted to give that to a worthy listener who needs it and uses public transport a lot more than he does.
Over two weeks, Canberrans nominated someone who deserved to win and benefit from a year of free travel, with many listeners calling up and sharing their feel good public transport stories.
As part of the competition, locals were able to submit their ideas for Nige’s newest addition, the winning design a Canberra Bus Shelter, featuring Nige’s cat Harry.
The worthy listener who won the year’s worth of public transport was local lady Jess, who was nominated by her friend Yvette. Yvette described Jess as ‘the most kind-hearted person she knows, who runs a food pantry, and would give anyone the shirt off her back.’
It was a feel-good moment for everyone!
Listen to Jess’s full reaction when Mix 106.3’s Kristen & Nige told her…
