Canberra’s morning traffic just got wilder — literally.
Dashcam footage caught a deer bounding across Ginninderra Drive during peak hour, narrowly avoiding a collision with a surprised driver. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but it does serve as a reminder to expect the unexpected on our roads.

Deer-related vehicle collisions in Australia cost around $3.3 million annually, with about 300 incidents each year. Larger species like the Sambar deer, which can weigh between 250 and 300 kilograms, pose serious dangers to motorists.
So, if you’re driving through Canberra and spot something tall, brown, and definitely not a roo, slow down. It might just be the city’s newest four-legged commuter.
