The festive season is a wonderful time of the year, but for some it brings stress and sacrifice. No one should have to choose between food on the table for Christmas lunch, or a gift under the tree.
Hit 104.7 and Roundabout CBR are supporting the Vinnies Giving Tree initiative this festive season.
Here in Canberra, there’s 9 thousand kids who live below the poverty line.
On average, the Vinnies Emergency Helpline receives on average 120 calls for assistance every day. By supporting the Giving Tree, Canberrans will help make it possible for Vinnies and their volunteers to out food on the table, and gifts under the tree for locals experiencing disadvantage this Christmas.
Phillip Jones, Director of Fundraising, Marketing & Communications for Vinnies Canberra/Goulburn says they’re hoping Canberrans get behind a great cause…
“What we need this year is non-perishable foods, so puddings, chocolates, items we can use for hampers that will be delivered out over Christmas time, to make their day special”
“Also gift cards, so we can give those to families and to young people that can buy a Christmas present, or a gift for someone they normally wouldn’t be able to afford.”
Mr Jones says it’s easy to get involved, no matter how time poor you are this festive season.
“There’s a couple of ways you can do it. You can head to a Giving Tree at the Canberra Centre, or a Vinnies Store. Come by with something, we’ll take it!”
“Even 10 dollars, 20 dollars, whatever you can spare, makes a huge difference.”
“Or donate at Vinnies.org.au or call 13 18 12.”
