How did Canberra react to the Danish Royals?
Canberra well and truly rolled out the welcome mat for King Frederik and Queen Mary, with hundreds of locals and visitors turning out at the Australian War Memorial forecourt to catch a glimpse of the Danish royals.
Waving Australian and Danish flags, holding handmade signs and even dressing up for the occasion, the crowd buzzed with excitement as the King and Queen arrived. Queen Mary, visiting Australia for the first time as Queen, was all smiles as she greeted the crowd, many of whom had travelled interstate just to be there.
From royal superfans in crowns to a 10‑year‑old celebrating her birthday with a sign and a smile, the atmosphere was described as warm, joyful and unmistakably Canberra.
