Canberra and Queanbeyan are remembering Joseph McGrail-Bateup, better known as Lord Joseph, after news of his sudden passing.

A much-loved town crier, local character and recent Guinness World Record holder, Joseph brought joy, colour and one very unforgettable voice to the community.

This morning, Queanbeyan Mayor Kenrick Winchester joined the show to reflect on Joseph’s legacy, remembering him as a unique character who took great pride in entertaining people and bringing the community together.

Only a few weeks ago, Joseph was celebrating becoming the loudest man in the world after reaching 122.4 decibels. In our earlier chat with him, he spoke about the record, his town crying, and the surprise of going from a shy kid to “the loudest man on earth.”

Our thoughts are with Joseph’s family, friends, and everyone across Canberra and Queanbeyan who had the joy of knowing him, hearing him, or being stopped in their tracks by his incredible voice.
