There’ll be some changes to our New Years Eve celebrations this year, with the ACT Government announcing that it will not be marking the beginning of 2024 with a midnight fireworks show.

Instead, it said it’ll be running a single, 15-minute long show during the popular 9pm timeslot.

“The highlight of the night will be a single extended, up to 15-minute, fireworks spectacular with a synchronised soundtrack… Rather than two shorter displays at 9pm and midnight,” The Government said.

Assistant Minister for Economic Development, Tara Cheyne, said past attendance numbers show that the community prefers the earlier showtime, because it’s more suitable for families.

“So this year we are consolidating the same volume of fireworks previously spread across two shows into one huge fireworks spectacular,” she said.

Event organisers will be setting up 3 different event hubs at Rond Terrace, Regatta Point, and Commonwealth Place, for attendees to get a good look at the fireworks show.

Each hub will feature music from local Dj’s, Boom Box 2U.

While the fireworks show will be synchronised up to a soundtrack and launched from the Central Basin and Commonwealth Bridge.

Attendance to the event is free, and there will also be free public transport available on the night.
