The push for a proper Socceroos live site in Civic has picked up another supporter, with Nick Tyrrell backing local fan Armani.

After hearing Armani call for a big screen in the city instead of waiting until later in the tournament, Nick Tyrrell said he started making calls and found that a Civic live site could be pulled together by Saturday for about $15,000. He said that would cover the screen and audio, and claimed there are contractors ready to do it.

For Nick Tyrrell, the case is simple. He said there is no excuse not to make it happen, arguing that a city watch site would not only get fans behind the Socceroos but also give Canberra businesses a boost during the morning rush.

With Armani pushing the idea and Nick Tyrrell now backing it with numbers, the ball is in ACT Government’s court to decide whether Canberra gets the Civic World Cup atmosphere locals are asking for.
