One of Australia’s most iconic TV characters has officially found a new home in Canberra, with Agro joining the National Film and Sound Archive’s collection. For generations who grew up with Agro’s Cartoon Connection, it’s a seriously nostalgic moment, and one that almost didn’t happen. After meeting with several institutions, the family of the late entertainer Jamie Dunn chose the NFSA to be the home to care for Agro and continue his storytelling, and plan to put Agro “front and centre” for fans to experience.

The NFSA already holds a bunch of Agro-related items, from show episodes to quirky memorabilia, but this is the big one: the original puppet and costumes, complete with its decades of weathered history (and even a few battle scars from classic on-screen antics). While conservation work is now underway, the plan is to have Agro featured in a dedicated exhibition space by 2027.
