The National Capital Authority has floated the idea of having a sauna on Lake Burley Griffin.

While there’s calls for local authorities to bring back The Birdman Rally.

Inspired by events overseas, The Birdman Rally was launched in the nation’s capital in 1985.

Every March up until 1992 thousands flocked to the shores of Lake Burley Griffin to witness one of the more spectacular events on the Canberra Festival program.

Competitors would arrive at the lake with their home made ‘bird flying’ apparatus, and launch themselves off a ramp over the lake. Many of whom, if not all of them ended up in the lake at some point depending on the success of their invention.
