One special guest is kicking off the Christmas festivities here in Canberra, with Santa Claus paying a visit tonight!
The Big Man in Red will be holding a special meet and greet at the Festive Lane Markets from 7pm this evening, and after he arrives he’ll stay at the Canberra Centre for the next few weeks to take photos with local families.
The markets will be held every afternoon and evening from Friday the 17th up until Sunday the 19th underneath the Christmas tree on City Walk.
Local businesses are getting in on the action for this Christmas shopping season, with the ACT Government releasing a ‘Festive Finds’ curated gift guide showcasing some of Canberra’s best products.
And to sweeten the deal, shoppers are being given the chance to win prizes for simply shopping in the City Centre.
Anyone who goes shopping from now on until the 31st of December can scan their receipt online and go into the draw to win a range of prizes.
It’s not just shopping that’s available in the city centre this holiday season, with more decorations, activities, entertainment being set up for Christmas.
A 2m tall Christmas Tree has been set up along the City Walk, adorned with lights and decorations.
While the ‘Canberra Winter Wonderland’ snow globe, which debuted last year, showcasing a snowy version of the iconic Black Mountain will also up and running.
Among the activities, the merry-go-round located in Petrie Plaza will be offering free rides from December 1.
Our own pets are also included, with a Paws Christmas Party event scheduled for November 26th, kicking off the holiday spirit!
A bit further out from the city, Santa will also make his presence known with Westfield Woden and Westfield Belconnen featuring a special Auslan Santa day!
Saint Nick will offer children who use Auslan as their main form communication to sit and chat with a Santa that’s just like them!
