We all know formals can be expensive.

It’s the culmination of years of hard work, study and dedication and most kids are pretty keen to celebrate with a fancy outfit, fresh hair and snazzy cars.

However, especially at the moment during the cost of living crisis, it can be particularly difficult to fund such an event.

That’s where the Canberra Community steps in with Operations Formal Wear.

Run by the Lake Tuggeranong Lions Club, organisers have been collecting formal clothing, shoes and accessories for both boys and girls, donated by member of the community.

With students doing it tough then able to shop through their range of donated goods at no cost.

Mel Oxman from the Lions Club spoke to Mix106.3’s Kristen & Nige about the Operation, listen below:

Mel from the Lions Club says they’ve been blown away by the communities’ support for the initiative.

“It was only going to be for one day but we got so many donations that we are now having it over the whole weekend.”

Operation Formal Wear is hosting its Shopping Days this weekend – 14th & 15th October at the Lions Youth Haven.

While browsing the options, people will also be on site to offer free and discounted services for students on the actual day of their formals.
